Environmental earth science course
In the environmental earth science course, we are committed in yielding researcher that not only has knowledge on environmental earth science but also a cooperative minded person which would be active in the international arena. Besides, we also actively participate in international projects (IODP, International Ocean Drilling Program) and other international research projects.
1.Integrated Ocean Drilling Program(IODP)
Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) is international marine program that has international participation that explores the Earth's history and structure as recorded in seafloor sediments and rocks, and monitors subseafloor environments. Japan’s riser vessel, Chikyu (Planet Earth) is one of the vessel involve actively in this program. The practical training will require student to sail with these vessels and gain exposure on international research program.
2.Kochi Core Center
Kochi Core center is a facility jointly operated by Kochi University and Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC). This facility is fully equipped with cutting-edge equipments such as cold storage repositories for drilled core samples. The practical training of this course will require student to conduct study here at this center.
